I was ready to purchase this set on 2/1/2010. I put it in my cart on January 22. At that time the TV was $469.00. It had been as low as $399.00 before Christmas. At $469.00 I still thought this TV was worth the price. However, the price has gone up to $649.00 as of the 24th of January. After only two days in my cart, Amazon now refuses to honor the lower price. I give this set one star because it is no longer available at a reasonable price. At the higher price, I recommend shopping Samsung or Sony at Walmart or Best Buy online. To Amazon’s credit, I have purchased more than one TV set in the past, and many other products. Amazon has always been quick to fix any order, return, or any problem I have had in every way. Until now. How is it that a TV is worth $180.00 more today than it was yesterday? I have shopped the competitors, and I have never seen such a price hike on any item in any retail outlet, ever… S.Spurgin

Where do I start? No one at Amazon has returned my repeated e-mails or phone call. This TV was shipped via FedX. I now understand Amazon allows FedX to drop a $500.00 TV in my driveway without a required signature. It is Amazon policy to deliver large expensive goods without a signature. Needless to say when I arrived home from work my TV was missing. FedX said they delivered it. I do not have a TV or a return call from Amazon. Very disappointment with the lack of service!

Lots of features for a TV this price, has both digital and analog out (check the side of the TV), great picture and contrast given the low ratio, and few artifacts using HD content. BUT it has a critical flaw mentioned indirectly by other reviewers. The HDMI connections on this set have several issues – first, they have real trouble with Dolby, the audio will crack and pop when you fast forward/rewind using a DVD or DVR (Tivo). If you can set your sources to PCM output this resolves the problem. Second, streaming via HDMI causes the audio and video to be out of sync, followed by an audio pop every 5 seconds as the audio tries to reset. This happened to me on Netflix using a Tivo HD, and was only with the VA370M. LG and Toshiba sets in my house had no issue with the same box.

I have a major gripe with this TV which I want to warn you about. The only way to watch standard definition channels (non-HD channels) is in “stretched” (fat-head) mode. There is no mode that leaves the black bars on the left and the right but is full height. I don’t know about you but I get a lot more SD channels than HD channels on my cable service, and I want to be able to watch the SD channels full height but not stretched and with decent quality. I think there is another mode which only stretches the edges, and one where you can watch it not-stretched but only 12 inches high by 14 inches wide, but these are not what most people want either.
Thankfully it also was defective – every sixth time you change channels a loud buzz comes out the speakers for a second – so I returned it to amazon.
